BARRY McGuigan was the best in the world but boxing has never been the
sum of his parts. The intelligence, wit and determination that took
him to the very top of his chosen sport was also the starting point
of an equally successful career beyond the ropes. Barry has been delivering
boxing commentary all over the globe since his retirement as a professional
boxer in 1989. Prior to his exclusive deal with Sky Sports, Barry was
a regular contributor on the BBC, ITV, EUROSPORT, PRIME NETWORK in the
USA and STAR TV in the Far East. Barry is also a star in print. His
weekly column in the Daily Mirror leads the way, setting the boxing
agenda every Saturday morning.
In addition
to his media commitments Barry works ceaselessly in the cause of fighters.
Barry is president and founder of the Professional Boxers Association,
now the British
Boxers Association since its amalgamation with the GMB. Through
BBA members are encouraged to understand the business side of boxing
and to organise their lives better. The organisation promotes further
education and helps boxers to develop other skills so that they are
able to earn a living when their boxing careers are over.
